Wedding in Tuscany
Mathilde and Bendik had travelled from Norway to celebrate their wedding in Tuscany, with friends and family arriving from Norway and different corners of Europe. By the end of the day, the quietness of those first photographs had turned into something completely different: guests dancing around the garden, Bendik being launched into the air by his friends, napkins flying above the dinner tables and a party that became increasingly difficult, and increasingly fun, to predict. I photographed the whole wedding using a mixture of digital photography and 35mm analogue film.

I met Audrey and Kyle, a young married couple from California, in Ischia for a couple photoshoot. They were traveling through Italy, and our time together turned into one of my most memorable experiences behind the camera.

Wedding in Tuscany
Jessica and Matthew travelled from Los Angeles to celebrate their wedding at Casa Cornacchi, surrounded by the friends and family who had witnessed the many chapters of their relationship. I joined them in Tuscany for two days, beginning with their rehearsal dinner and returning the following morning for the wedding itself.

There was the intimacy of their wedding at the Polish Embassy in Rome, the warmth of their families in Borghese Gardens, and later, a sunset couple photoshoot on Anzio beach.

Alternative Wedding in Rome
Madeline and Josh’s wedding took place over three days, spread across different parts of the city and photographed using both digital and 35mm film. It was not a wedding that could be reduced to one venue, one visual style or one carefully controlled mood. And that was exactly what made it memorable. As an alternative wedding photographer in Italy, these are the celebrations I feel especially drawn to: weddings that are built around the personalities of the people getting married rather than around a template of what a wedding is supposed to look like.

Pre Wedding Photoshoot in Rome
Kanaka and Sakitu travelled from Tokyo to Rome for their pre wedding photoshoot. They had contacted me many months before the trip, and from the beginning I could feel how excited they were about the idea. They are both huge admirers of Italy and Rome, and they wanted their photographs to feel connected to the city rather than simply using Rome as a background. They were also very precise about what they liked and the atmosphere they wanted. At the same time, they gave me complete freedom to photograph them in my own way. That combination made the whole session feel like teamwork.

Elopement in Val d’Orcia, Tuscany
The day could probably be introduced with one photograph: the bride standing in a vineyard somewhere in southern Tuscany, holding a single Prugnolo Gentile grape in her hand. It is a small image, but somehow it contains a lot of what I remember about Rana and Zach’s elopement. Tuscany, wine, curiosity, wandering without too much urgency, and the feeling that we had enough time to stop whenever something caught our attention.

Aditi booked this engagement photoshoot months before coming to Rome because she already knew she wanted the photographs taken on 35mm film. She and her fiancé had recently become engaged and were visiting from Brooklyn before returning to the United States, where they were preparing for their wedding. That made the starting point very simple.

We started in the late afternoon around the little lake inside Villa Borghese, one of my favorite places to begin a relaxed couple session in Rome. Tivoli is one of those places that feels close enough to Rome, but different enough to become its own little world. Just a short distance from the city, it has narrow streets, old buildings, beautiful corners, and a slower rhythm that makes it a lovely destination for couples dreaming of an intimate wedding or elopement near Rome. Cemre and Mert came all the way from Ireland to Italy to make their dream happen. Their civil wedding took place at the Comune di Tivoli, followed by a relaxed couple photoshoot through the streets of Tivoli. As a wedding photographer in Tivoli, this is exactly the kind of day I love to photograph: simple, emotional, full of movement, and completely true to the couple.

Some couple photoshoots in Paris are built around moving from one famous landmark to another. This one was almost the opposite. Kaylyn and Rynhardt were visiting Paris from Australia, and when we talked about where to photograph them, they weren’t interested in crossing the city just to include the Eiffel Tower. They liked Montmartre and wanted to stay in the same area, walk, enjoy the morning together and let the photographs happen along the way. That immediately made sense to me.
