Couple Photoshoot in Florence on 35mm Film and Digital

If you are planning a couple photoshoot in Florence, you are probably already drawn to something beyond just beautiful views. Florence has a way of drawing you in. The Renaissance light dances across stone facades and terracotta rooftops, the Arno river carries centuries of stories in its reflections, and even the grandest piazzas hold quiet corners where time seems to slow. Every street, every bridge, every hidden courtyard feels alive with possibility.

I have been living in Italy for the past ten years, working as both a photographer and a writer, and Florence is one of those places I keep returning to. Not just for work, but for the feeling it creates. Every photoshoot here feels less like a planned session and more like a quiet walk that unfolds naturally through layers of history and light.

My approach is simple. I observe, I follow the light, and I let things happen. Whether I photograph on film or digital, the intention stays the same. To document your connection as it really is, without forcing anything.

Why Florence for a Couple Photoshoot

Florence is often associated with art and iconic landmarks, but what makes it special for couples is how those elements interact with real life. The soaring Duomo, the narrow alleyways, the bridges over the Arno, and the open piazzas do not overpower the moment. They frame it. From the intimate streets of the historic center to the sweeping views from above the city, everything feels textured, romantic, and deeply human.

For couples, this creates something natural. No pressure, no performance. Just space to be yourselves while the city quietly supports your story.

My Style

People often describe my work as candid and documentary. I do not stage moments or ask for constant poses. Instead, I guide lightly when needed and leave room for real interactions. I pay attention to small details. The way you look at each other, how you move through a place, the pauses in between.

When I photograph on film, I focus on tones, imperfections, and that sense of something lasting. Digital allows me to react quickly and capture everything as it unfolds. Combining both gives a fuller story, one that feels both immediate and timeless.

Where to Do a Couple Photoshoot in Florence

Florence offers a beautiful mix of grand landmarks and intimate urban moments. Here are some of the places I often suggest or return to:

  • Piazzale Michelangelo & San Miniato al Monte Sweeping panoramic views over the terracotta rooftops, the Duomo, and the Arno. The light here is especially magical at sunrise and golden hour. Perfect for those wide, cinematic moments with the whole city as your backdrop.
  • Ponte Vecchio & the Arno River The iconic bridge with its jewelry shops and the gentle flow of the river below. Early mornings or late afternoons bring a romantic, almost timeless atmosphere. Wonderful for movement, reflections, and quiet connection.
  • Historic Center – Duomo & surrounding streets The magnificent Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery, and the labyrinth of narrow streets around it. Intimate and grand at once. Early mornings feel surprisingly calm as the city slowly wakes up around you.
  • Piazza della Signoria & Loggia dei Lanzi The historic heart with its statues, Palazzo Vecchio, and open-air sculpture gallery. Warm tones, dramatic architecture, and a sense of living history that adds depth and romance to every frame.
  • Oltrarno District & Boboli Gardens The quieter side of the river — artisan workshops, charming streets, and beautiful gardens. Ideal for a slower, more local feel with a touch of nature inside the city.

There are also many smaller piazzas, hidden courtyards, and riverside paths where we can wander without interruptions and let the story unfold naturally.

Best Time for a Couple Photoshoot in Florence

Timing plays a big role in Florence, especially because of the light and the crowds.

From April to June and from September to October, the conditions are often ideal. The temperatures are comfortable, the light is soft but vibrant, and the city feels more welcoming.

During the summer months, I usually suggest avoiding midday sessions. Early morning or late afternoon works much better. The light becomes warmer, the shadows softer, and golden hour at Piazzale Michelangelo is unforgettable.

Sunrise sessions can be especially rewarding if you want quieter streets and a more intimate atmosphere before the city fully awakens.

What a Photoshoot Feels Like

A couple photoshoot with me in Florence is not about performing in front of the camera. It feels more like spending time together in a city that inspires connection at every turn.

We walk the cobblestone streets, cross bridges, sometimes stop for coffee, gelato, or an aperitivo. I may guide you slightly toward better light or a certain viewpoint, but most of the time I stay in the background.

This creates space for real moments to happen. A shared glance on Ponte Vecchio, laughter echoing in a quiet alley, or quiet contemplation overlooking the rooftops.

Film and Digital

Some couples choose only digital, others only film, but most prefer a combination. Film captures atmosphere and feeling in a way that feels timeless. It slows the process down in a good way. Digital gives flexibility and allows me to capture everything without missing a moment. Together, they create a balanced story. One that feels both present and lasting.

Who This is For

I photograph couples at different stages. Engagements, anniversaries, honeymoons, or simply trips together. You do not need a special occasion. Wanting to remember a moment in your life is already enough.

Why I Keep Coming Back to Tuscany

Florence is not just about its landmarks. It is about rhythm and intimacy. The city moves at a human pace once you step off the main paths, and that changes how couples connect, how they look at each other against the backdrop of centuries of art and history.

As a photographer, this makes everything more honest and layered.

Being based in Italy allows me to understand the light, the best times to avoid crowds, and how to weave personal stories into these historic settings without forcing anything.

Beyond photography, Florence’s vibrant food and wine culture often becomes part of the experience. From discovering a hidden enoteca to enjoying local specialties, I’m always happy to share recommendations or chat about Tuscan gastronomy. (After completing my WSET Level II certification and spending time with wine producers, I love bringing that knowledge into our conversations when it feels natural.)
