Wedding Photographer in Sicily on Film and Digital

If you are looking for a wedding photographer in Sicily, I might be the right person for you. I have been living in Italy for ten years now, photographing and writing across the country, and Sicily has always been one of the places that feels like home. Its geography, the ever-changing light, the sea, and of course the food make the island unforgettable. I have a few close friends there, which means every time I return for a shoot, it feels like visiting old friends rather than going to work.

My approach to wedding photography is simple and honest. I prefer to stay quiet, observe, and let things unfold naturally. Whether I shoot on film or digital, my aim is always the same: to tell the story of the day as it really happens.

Why Sicily

Sicily is an island that carries the marks of history, light, and life all at once. The mixture of Mediterranean landscapes, baroque towns, and volcanic soil creates a rare kind of beauty that never feels ordinary.

For weddings, it offers everything: ancient villas and seaside terraces, cobbled streets and olive groves, calm beaches and vibrant piazzas. Every corner of the island offers a different kind of atmosphere for a story to unfold.

My Style

People often describe my style as candid and natural. I like to photograph moments as they are rather than setting them up. What interests me most are the quiet gestures, the laughter, and the details that often go unnoticed.

When I shoot in film, I focus on the timeless texture and tones that only analog photography can offer. Digital allows me to move freely and catch everything that happens around. Combining both helps me tell the full story with depth and warmth.

I photograph not only traditional weddings but also smaller ceremonies, elopements, engagements, and honeymoons in Sicily.

When to Get Married in Sicily

The timing of your wedding in Sicily can change the whole mood of the day. From May to early October, the island is bathed in golden light and warm evenings, perfect for outdoor celebrations. June and September are particularly balanced months, when the temperatures are comfortable and the light is still rich.

If you plan a midsummer wedding, consider late-afternoon or sunset ceremonies. The heat and brightness around midday can be intense, while the light between 5 and 8 p.m. is soft and flattering.

For couples dreaming of a more intimate atmosphere, spring (April–May) and early autumn (October) are ideal. Many venues are less crowded, and the air carries a gentler rhythm.

When booking a wedding photographer in Sicily, it helps to plan 8–12 months in advance, especially if you want a weekend date during the high season. Popular venues like Taormina or Noto often fill quickly, and early coordination between your planner, venue, and photographer allows us to shape the schedule around the best light.

If you are organizing a small ceremony or elopement, shorter notice is usually fine. I often travel across Sicily for short, spontaneous celebrations, as long as travel and accommodation are arranged in time.

Where to Get Married in Sicily

Over the years, I have photographed or visited many places on the island, and each one has its own rhythm and charm. Here are a few that often come to mind:

Taormina
Perched above the sea with views of Mount Etna, Taormina feels both elegant and relaxed. Its terraces and gardens offer wonderful light for portraits, especially at sunset.

Cefalù
A coastal town where medieval streets meet the sea. It has an authentic atmosphere that works beautifully for intimate weddings or elopements.

Noto and the baroque villages in the south-east
Golden tones, quiet streets, and soft light make this area a dream for those who love architecture and calm surroundings.

Agrigento and the Valley of the Temples
Perfect if you want your celebration surrounded by history and open landscapes. The temples at sunset are simply unforgettable.

There are also many smaller towns such as Scopello, Ortigia, Modica, or Castellammare del Golfo that are ideal for elopements and couple sessions.

Best Spots for Wedding Photos in Sicily

Each part of Sicily offers a different kind of light and texture. Some of my favourite locations for portraits or quiet walks with couples are:

  • The ancient theatre of Taormina, with the sea and Mount Etna in the distance

  • The white cliffs of Scala dei Turchi at sunset

  • The narrow streets of Cefalù that open suddenly to the sea

  • The vineyards and olive groves around Noto and Marsala

  • Hidden hill towns like Buscemi or Polizzi Generosa, where time seems to stop

Why I Love Photographing in Sicily

Every time I photograph a wedding in Sicily, I am reminded how generous the island is. The colours, the sounds, and the people make it easy to tell real stories. It is not only a place of beauty but also of emotion. Being based in Italy helps me understand the rhythm of the day, the light, the customs, and how to move quietly while capturing what matters.

Film and Digital

Some couples ask me to shoot their wedding entirely on film, others prefer digital, and most choose a mix. Film captures atmosphere and feeling in a way that feels timeless, while digital allows for flexibility and immediacy. Whichever format you prefer, the focus remains the same: your story, the connection between you, and the spirit of the place.
